How Does It Work

Setting up the NutriBullet is very straightforward. In the box, you receive two blender cups, two to-go lids, the extractor blade, two lip rings, and a user manual.

First, connect the Balance to your smartphone or tablet using Bluetooth. Download the NutriBullet Balance app and allow it to walk you through the process of connecting your phone to the blender.

Once it’s linked, you can then control the Balance from your smartphone. From there, you can select one of over 100 recipes – or create your own.

Add the ingredients into the Balance blender cup, twist the blade on tightly to ensure nothing leaks out, and then place it onto the power base. Turn the cup and press down to activate the machine.

If you choose one of the included recipes, the app will display the necessary measurements for each ingredient, which you then place in the blender cup.

Next, confirm the timer recommended by the app, so it can blend your recipe. You can set your own timer, but the app’s suggestion will result in the best consistency.

Through the app, you can also watch your calorie, fat, protein, carbs, sugar, and fiber intake based on what ingredients you place in the Balance. You can even establish ‘wellness’ goals to better monitor your health.

Capital Brands: The Brand

The NutriBullet Balance all started from the Magic Bullet craze. The Magic Bullet was created by Homeland Housewares, a division of Alchemy Worldwide, in 2004.

Once the Magic Bullet reached its height of fame, other incarnations emerged, including the NutriBullet and the NutriBullet Balance.

The Positives

Super Easy to Set Up and Use

The NutriBullet Balance is intuitive for beginners and effective for nutritionists. Here are a couple of different techniques you can use with the Balance.

For normal blending, fill the cup with your chosen ingredients and add liquid up to the fill line. Twist the blade onto the cup and tighten it snugly. Place it onto the power base, then press down and twist it to blend.

Don’t blend for more than one minute at a time. To deactivate the machine, twist its cup to the right.

For the tap technique, place the ingredients into the cup, screw on the blade, and tap it onto the countertop; this moves all the ingredients to the bottom. Place the cup and blade back onto the power base and finish processing it. To turn it off, twist the cup in the opposite direction and remove it.

For the shake technique, take the cup and blade assembly off the base. Shake the unit (minus the base) like a cocktail shaker. Place the assembly back on the power base and finish processing it.

For the pulse technique, hold the cup on the base and apply pressure in a counter-clockwise pattern; this stops it from locking onto the base. With your other hand, tap the cup and immediately release it; continue until the ingredients reach the consistency you want.

Incredibly Easy to Clean

Nothing is more frustrating than clean-up; luckily, the Balance is easy to wash.

All components – save the power base – can be placed on the top shelf of your dishwasher. Let it do the work! For faster clean-up, just rinse everything in warm, soapy water.

To clean out stubborn residue, fill the cup with ⅔ soapy water. Screw on the lid and place it on the power base, ‘blending’ for 20-30 seconds. It’ll be thoroughly cleansed! To clean the power base itself, simply unplug and wipe it down with a damp cloth.

It won’t take much to keep your NutriBullet clean and ready to go, which makes it far less daunting to own than other blenders, and much easier to use! You’ll likely look forward to using this blender instead of hauling out a  big clunky machine every time you’re in need of a smoothie.

The Negatives

Small Ingredient Database

While the Balance helps in keeping track of your diet, those who want a detailed report may feel like the blender is lacking.

This blender does provide an ingredient database – but some users would prefer it to be larger and consist of a wider variety of items.

If the recipe you choose features ingredients the Balance hasn’t registered, the app won’t record it in your calorie/fat intake. Hopefully, NutriBullet will expand this database in the future, until then, you’ll have to use this alongside another method.

Tricky to Disassemble

You might have some difficulty twisting the blade off of the blender cup. The blade must be tightened snugly to ensure none of the ingredients leak out, but this makes it troublesome to unscrew once you’re finished.

If you have any issues with your hands or simply lack hand strength, this may not be the blender for you. It requires a bit of force to twist off.

Noisy

While this blender is powerful, it sure sounds like it. While most blenders will rattle up some noise this one is no different.

If you’re sensitive to noise, want to use this frequently or live with a large number of housemates this can be a problem. While it’s not a dealbreaker, it’s best to know beforehand.

Overall Verdict

After going over all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the NutriBullet Balance. It’s compact, simple to use, quite powerful, and it cleans out like a dream. What more could you need?

While it does have its limitations (mainly, a smaller database and a difficult-to-unscrew blade), these cons don’t outweigh the Balance’s overall performance.

You can track your diet, blend ingredients thoroughly, and manage the details from your phone. Overall, it’s a great blender!
